Potterthon! Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Hi everyone!

Here is day 4 of Potterthon, The Goblet of Fire.

I must admit this mani and tomorrows, I am kind of disappointed in. I did them both last night but I was really tired after going to gym (I'm still wearing my gym clothes here haha) and seeing some friends... So they aren't really up to scratch! I was also a little uninspired as my ring finger nail got bumped yesterday, as my nails are still very thin, a huge chunk came off, now it is a super nubbin! D:

So much stuff happens in GoF. I really liked the book but I was really disappointed in the movie, I think it's the worst film. It skipped heaps of stuff, changed things around and I think it relied too heavily on the assumption that everyone watching it had read the books. But it did have David Tennant in it, so that made it a little bit better.

The books have some great moments I wanted to capture and originally I had planned to do the goblet, a dragon, the mermaid from the bathroom... But I just ran out of time starting the nails after 9pm.

Instead I decided to do one scene which is a standout for me in the book and very exciting! The moment that Harry confronts Voldemort in the graveyard. Voldemort uses Avada Kedavra and Harry uses Stupefy. The red and green streaks meet and the wands link, drawing out the images of the last spells that the wand of Voldemort had used. The moment between Harry and the Spectres of his parents always makes me sad.

My nails depict the spells and the meeting of them in the middle!
It's a little hard to tell, but the middle nail has some shimmery blue sparks as well as some of OPI's Save Me on there, silver glitter and pink and blue bar glitter.

Stay tuned tomorrow for Goblet of Fire! From the sounds of some of the other entries, some of the other ladies didn't like this book, but I do! Apart from whinging Harry haha.

Potterthon! Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Hi everyone!

So here we are at day 3 of Potterthon, I hope you are enjoying it!

Today's entry is about The Prisoner of Azkaban. This is the book that really kickstarted my love of the books, I think partly because when it was released it was at the right reading level for my age.

But mostly, it introduced my favorite characters, Sirius and Remus. It also gave us more of a look into the past to the lives of Harry's parents in school.

It also got me into the dreaded world of fanfiction.. Yeah I went there, maybe some of you did too!
The very best one was Shoebox Project and my friends and I read it every week it was released! The author also ended up writing some excellent novels which were published and are some of my favourites ever!

ANYWAY... The book really develops characters and relationships I think and for that, I love it. It starts to set the real tone for the rest of the novels.

My mani for this book, well it was hard to decide as there is lots of choices! However I ended up doing something certainly influenced by the book and something that is also important to me and my memories of reading Harry Potter.

The middle finger is a night sky, with a star and moon.. One one side is a black dog/Sirius/Padfoot/the Grimm ;) and on the other is a werewolf/Remus/Moony. On my pinkie is a little rat, that's Wormtail/Peter and on my thumb (don't look too hard, it's terrible!) is what is SUPPOSED to be a deer/Prongs/James.

These are the characters I love the best and the third book really gives you a sense of the important bond of friendship in the group, as shown between Sirius and Remus and the effect that betraying your friends can have.

Do you like Book 3?

Looking forward to tomorrow!

Potterthon! Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Hi everyone!

So here we are for day two of Potterthon!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. To be honest this book never really grabbed me as much as the others, however I still enjoyed the story.

For my nails today I chose, the wall with bloody writing on it, here you see part of the words 'her body will lie in the chamber forever', a nail that represents Fawkes the Pheonix, Ginny asleep, a stone wall with a snake on it to represent Slytherin and it's heir Nd a page from the diary of Tom Riddle, where Ginny is writing to Tom.

I got to use a few untrieds in this manicure like Essence The Dawn is Broken for the stone walls, which I LOVED! Such a pretty colour :)

To be honest, I usually end up not reading the first two books when I decide to start reading the series again, so... BRING ON BOOK THREE!

Please make sure you check out the other talented ladies taking part in this challenge

Potterthon! Harry Potter and the Philosoher's Stone

Hi everyone!

So today I start a really fun nail challenge, Potterthon!

7 Days, 7 Books, 7 manicures, 7 Participants.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is the first book in the Harry Potter series.

Originally I resisted reading these books, I think mostly because everyone was telling me they were good and I should read them haha.

I picked up the first book later, when the third book came out and then I was hooked! Silly me for waiting so long. Ive always been a fast reader and I smashed through the first three then eagerly awaited the release of all the others.

Harry Potter certainly helped me to form closer friendships in school with some other girls who ended up as obsessed as me!

So here is my first set of nails, for the first book I did both hands.
On my pinkie is Harry's famous lightening bolt scar, then the Mirror of Erised, the Philosophers Stone itself and Hedwig. On the thumb I painted Harry (Green eyes of course, none of this blue eyes movie crap!)

On the other hand I did HP for Harry Potter and each of the house colours. Again, these are the book colours, not the movie colours.

As I mentioned above, I'm doing this challenge with 6 other awesome ladies, please check out their blogs listed below to see all their Harry Potter nails!

Tune in tomorrow for the next set of nails, Chamber of Secrets!

Steampunk Nail Art

Hi everyone,

I'm catching up on blogging!

Here's another nail art I did recently for a challenge in a nail polish group I am part of on Facebook.

The theme was steampunk.
As my nails are still quite short I didn't want to go too full on.

For those that aren't aware what Steampunk is I suggest you look it up, but part of what it's all about is the idea of a future where steam remained the primary means of generating power. Colours generally associated with it are golds, brass, coppers, green and brown. Steampunk also incorporates a lot of clockwork elements, like cogs.

For my mani I decided to go for a design using cogs.

I used a base of China Glaze Agro for these nails, a beautiful shimmery olive green. For the cogs I used China Glaze 2030 (gold) and Mode Midas Touch (copper). I painted them using a fine tipped paint brush.

Agro is two coats and the cogs are also two coats.

For my accent nails I used China Glaze Ick-A-Bod-Y and painted both a key and a lock in CG 2030. I also painted a cost of Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black on the accent nails but it was only visible in some lights :).

What do you think? Would you try a steampunk manicure?

Have you heard of the genre? Are you a fan?

Just because Bunnies!

Hi everyone,

today I have a cute and easy manicure I did last night.

Little bunnies and carrots!

I used a base of China Glaze Electric Beat which is my favourite polish at the moment. I used two coats.

For the bunnies I painted semi circles in OPI Alpine Snow and then added the lines for ears.

I used Picture Polish Flamingo for the ears and Picture Polish Jade for the eyes. OPI Sparrow me the Drama was used for the noses and the Models Own nail art pen in black helped out the the details!

The carrots could use some work haha but ok for my first try! They are OPI A Roll in the Hague, China Glaze Gaga For Green and China Glaze Lemon Fizz.

Overall I like these a lot, I guess they are pretty Easter-y but I also like them for a cute every day mani!

Sam :)
